Mary Harney was a senior Government Minister in Ireland including almost a decade as Deputy Prime Minister. For seven years she had responsibility for industrial development and the promotion of Irish business in export markets. She established Science Foundation Ireland to strengthen Ireland’s research capacity and to work with businesses at the cutting edge of the application of technology.
She was Minister for Health and Children for almost seven years and initiated major reforms including cancer services, in-care of the elderly and in the regulation of health professionals.
She has deep knowledge of the interactions between business and government at national and European levels. She is an economics graduate of Trinity College Dublin and is now focusing on business having retired from politics in 2011.
